Dear Friends and Lovers of the Arts~

I want to share some exciting news with you.  As you may know, I have been a dedicated dancer and performer for over 22 years.  I have performed in numerous productions but I’ve never produced a whole show.  This year I applied to a special program, Next Frontier, which is sponsored by The 418 Project, our local non-profit dance studio (www.the418.org)Each year, this program chooses one artist to support in the creation of a full-length dance theater production.  I am the chosen artist this year!  The program offers wonderful mentoring from The 418 Project’s Executive Director, Ana Marden, and coaching from Misha Palin (www.thrillofcreation.com), guiding the artist through the steps of vision and production.

Mark your calendars for the shows premiering on October 7th and continuing through October 16.  “Vulnerable Power”, is a multi-generational dance theater production about women and their relationship to power and how that shifts as we age.  We examine how power dynamics change throughout life; how we try to gain power through subtle manipulation; and what women teach and share with one another.  Exploring these questions, the show celebrates being a woman at any age while also revealing the challenges and shadows we face.

As I delve into this creative process, I continue to step into my own vulnerable power, ripening into trusting my voice, my vision, and my art. Learning all aspects of producing a show is not only a tremendous growth and learning experience, but also an enormous challenge.  This is the first time I’ve fundraised for my own show.  For that reason I am seeking your support.

While The Next Frontier program offers support in many areas, it offers no financial support other than studio rehearsal space and a reduced rental rate for the shows.  As many of you know the cost of producing a show is rarely covered by just ticket sales.  Therefore, the rest will remain on the generous contributions from people like you.

The total budget is just under $12,000 (budget available upon request).   My goal is to raise this by the end of August!  Can you help me do this?  Your money will go to paying the performers, tech crew, costumes, marketing, filming, and rental of space for the shows.  No donation is too small or too big!  As a thank you, any donation over $50 you will receive one ticket to opening night and any donation over $100 you will receive 2 tickets to opening night.

If you’d like to make a tax-deductible contribution please send your donation to The 418 Project. Click the “Support Us” button on their website www.the418.org and include my name in the donationIf your donation does not need to be tax-deductible, then please send your donation directly to me at 1030 River St, Apt 318, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.  Checks should be made out to Amanda Greenlee.  You can also pick if there is something specific you’d like your generous contribution to go towards (costumes, props, artist’s stipends, etc).

And, if you are unable to donate money, but would like to donate your services and time I would gladly receive your gift.
I am looking for flyer distributors, videographer, house manager, stage manager, and production and/or marketing assistant.  I am also looking for advertising sponsors, women’s groups and general words of encouragement.

This is a truly exciting time for me as an artist as I expand into the next level of creation.  I am ever grateful for your generosity and all the support I am receiving and continue to receive.  Thanks for being a part of this project!!!

Most Respectfully,

Mandy Greenlee

As a devout non-violent communication student, practitioner, and teacher I found this article to be super inspiring.  I also find that being the leader of an organization requires empathy for the leadership too.  However, as the leader empathizes with the team, so can the team have greater empathy for the leadership.  Enjoy.
